EVOC HMI Product Used for Remote Industrial Control

System Introduction

With growing demands for industrial field, more and more remote management and decision makers’ involvement are required. This multi-control mode mainly includes field collecting layer, field control layer, local operation layer, and remote management layer. Obviously, traditional industrial field control cannot fulfill such requirements. The rapid growth of HMI, along with emergence of various advanced industrial BUS technology, will make remote industrial field control possible. Remote industrial control featuring EVOC HMI products has been extensively applied and recognized in Europe, North America and Asia. Taking power industry of Ruhr Region in Germany as a particular case, this article elaborates the application of EVOC HMI product in the industry.

 

 

System Principle

As stated above, the power remote industrial control system can be divided into four layers connected with each other by network. The detailed descriptions of each layer and network between layers are as follows:


Field collecting layer: it is mainly composed of field equipments including sensors, performer, and BUS communication module.
Field BUS: field equipments are connected to controller via field BUS, such as CAN, LonWork, and ProfiBus, etc.
Field control layer: Equipment can be monitored via field bus, logic controllers, such as PLC and HMI. At the same time, traditional distributed control can be achieved via I/O signals.
Local network: It can be field BUS, such as CAN BUS or ProfiBus, and also can be other communication networks supported by various equipment manufacturers, such as MPI network, and LAN used by other industrial fields. The local network is the passage for information from the controller to be transferred to the operation control platform.


Local operation layer: HMI products for field monitoring. By using various configuration software, HMI products conduct various data collecting, displaying, saving and storing, as well as realize control and configuration of the controller below. As the current controller supports multiple communication methods, the local operation layer can monitor operation, execute control and upload data by using large quantity of HMI products operating configuration software. On the other hand, the controller and HMI products can be maintained on a real time basis by using portable debugging equipments.

Management network: it can be Ethernet, even internet, such as WAN, 802.11G wireless LAN, MODEM network, GPRS network etc. It is mainly responsible for large quantity of field data uploading and remote control.


Remote control layer: a hardware platform composed of industrial computer, or high-end HMI. By operating the industrial configuration software of management and control integration, this layer can carry out large quantity of data statistics, calculation, storage, and work out reports for industrial field. This layer is also responsible for remote monitoring, coordination and management.

System Configuration

Local operation layer adopts all-in-one workstation EWS-845E, expandable to 4 x PCI device, 7 x ISA equipment, and 1 x 15” LCD. More expansion ports support various industrial network BUS modules, ensuring the secure upload of mass data.
Remote control layer adopts high performance flat panel computer PPC-1571 with 15” LCD screen, multi-USB, multi-RS232, network port and other general-purpose I/O ports.

 

System Evaluation

At the core position of all-in-one remote industrial control field integrating management and control, EVOC HMI product connects with field BUS, fulfills complete field operation and management over the upper layer of BUS logical control system. On the other hand, EVOC HMI product collects field data, and then updates relevant data needed by central management. With EVOC HMI product, real-time control, instant maintenance, decision, and remote management, all can be achieved, overall system cost reduced, production efficiency improved. In a word, EVOC HMI product offers extensive potential for the remote industrial field control.
