EVOC and AMD Sow Seeds of Cooperation

2012-03-09
Spring is the season to sow the seeds. For the colleges and universities across China, a good start in the beginning of a new year also means a lot. The Joint Lab of Embedded Technology, which was jointly established by EVOC Intelligent, AMD Company and Beijing University of Technology, ushered in its first communication meeting & OpenCL parallel programming training course. On March 2nd, organized by EVOC Intelligent and AMD Company, students from Beijing University of Technology, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Beijing Institute of Technology walked into Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of Software for short).

OpenCL (Open Computing Language) is the first open, royalty-free standard for cross-platform, parallel programming of modern processors found in personal computers, servers and handheld/embedded devices. It can be widely used in central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU), CELL architecture, digital signal processor (DSP) and other parallel processors. OpenCL has great prospects in a wide spectrum of applications in numerous market categories from cloud computing and Internet of Things to digital life and automation.

From parallel programming moto parallel algorithm design, then to parallel program realization, the complicated stuff was explained in a simple way during the training course. Mr. Yao Jifeng, the professor of Institute of Software, explained to the students in his own language: “Compared with serial algorithm, parallel algorithm uses many different processing devices to execute the algorithm. It brings unprecedented flexibility to software developers, because they can use most suitable methods to develop new applications.”

This practice activity for college students also marks the beginning of EVOC’s plan for the whole year. More events will follow soon. Just wait and see!
